Sounds more like a transmission problem, doesn't it? Seems like it's shifting into overdrive and back.

fel filter, fuel pump....?
my 82 4 cyl. carbed engine does that sometimes, i 'll be drivin and it'll start sputtering, due to a dirty gas tank

changed the fuel filter already fuel pump had a corroded power wire on it ripped it all aprt and saudered everything back together

sounds more like a tranny problem to me too but it doesnt come up with any codes and this is my first toyota im more of a ford guy myself so i dont know if i should start changing sensors on the tranny or what:dontknow:

thats only OBD 1 so dont you get limited codes unless you have a specific reader for it? my buddy had a 96 and it did the same sorta thing, definitely was the tranny, time to swap in a standard
