Love the old fords , couldnt till but do you have some heat under the intake ?
Had carb icing on mine , made a small water jacket for intake.

nope no heat under the intake, thinking of throwing in a thermal screen for the winter, even at -25C this winter she started up and purred no problems. Thanks for the comments, yeah the box was actually a lot of work considering no company makes replacement side panels for a 73-79 step side, so i opted for a 72. Little did I know that after the welder had it all done, it was 6" too narrow. So I brought it back for a second time, cut it right down the middle and widened the bitch. Looks good now :)

If you can find a good length of thick copper wire and wrap back and forth around the exhaust and carb base you won't have any more icing problems. Doesn't exactly look the nicest but works.
My dad had icing problems from new on his old ford carbed I6. He tried heat shields and a few other failed fix attemps that I can't remember before trying the copper wire which worked awsome. Drove it like that for years with no problems. He said his mileage improved quite a bit as well which was a bonus.

Love that you kept the 300! That sounds like a healthy mill... Have any video clips of it? Would sound sooooo cool with a split manifold and duals.

BTW... I'm pretty sure the stepside boxes are the same from '53-'79.
