is it full float?
if so no c clips in it
you pull the axleshaft
remove the spindle nuts and pull the hub

Ya, shouldn't an F-250 have a 9 inch? 8.8 is a half ton diff.:confused0006:

ok i guess i should be more clear
thats how my 8.8 comes apeart
you dont have 8.8 i know that much
it is a general way of taking apeart a non-float diff

If he has grease all over his brakes then its not an axle seal if he has gear oil all over his brakes then its probably an axle seal or it might be a wheel cylinder lets see some pics of the brakes and check to make sure its coming from the seal before u take it apart and don't fix the problem

ktowner351
03-11-2010, 09:13 PM
no its not the brakes i know that much... and yea its oil but not that its hit the brake dust and dirt it looks like greese..
so u guys figure its a 9"

ktowner351
03-11-2010, 09:17 PM
well acually if my research is correct.. the 9inch unbolts from the back.. mine unbolts from the back half with out the yoke.. ill go take a pick right now just cant show yea inside the wheel yet cause its go covers on the hubs and its too dark to pull the wheel lol

m j
03-11-2010, 09:25 PM
9" only came in half tons, the 8.8 is the piece of crap they replaced the 9" with
post decent pics and we will tell ya what it is

ktowner351
03-11-2010, 09:47 PM
excuse my sad atempt of a drawing... but yea the center part looks like that abd it doesnt look like it comes out.. the oil is 100% coming from the center just behind the 4 bolts...

okay so were gonna assume its a semi float dana 60 which was offered in 1980 on f250s and holds 5500 pounds instead of 6500... a friend of mine has a parts truck with an axle for... how do i tell the differance between the dana 60 and 10.25 steerling.... it on the other hand is for sure a full float with the bolt on the end of the hub... as for the one on there right now.. so i geuss ill go back with the c clip idea then?

Renegord
03-11-2010, 10:21 PM
If it's a 3/4 ton it's not c-clip, that's light duty shit. I'm no pro but it's gotta be a dana 50 or 60 or a 10.25, but it looks like a dana axle, which means its modle number will be stamped in it at least once.( My dana 44 has it stamped in 3 different places)So get under it and have a good hard look:eek:

P.S. it's probably on the yoke side on or near the webbing[cheers]

never seen a 60 semi float in a truck
guess ford fucked up a lot of things on the 1980 trucks
that is a 60 or 61 and the MrN chart says it is C clip
