hey guys, so it looks like a blew my head gasket, or possibly timing chain, but most likely head gasket, my question to you is, is it worth fixing on just get a new motor, my buddy can do it but will cost like $700 thats to do the head gasket get the head machined and preasure tested aswell, but think for $700 i could buy a new motor and through it in, id be able to do it all myself its just im so busy and dont really have all the tools i would need, does anyone know someone cheap, give me your 2 cents[36]

if you can get it to me i'll do it for 250 bucks u pay for gaskets and parts i can get a gasket set for around 120 and if you want to have it reserfaced and pressure tested it's another 180 i think

I did mine myself no resurfacing or pressure testing. Just checked it with a straight edge. About 150 for all the parts. Still runs like a top even after being hydrolocked. So it can be done on the cheap. Depends on the mileage of your engine vs junkyard. Who knows how the used one was treated.

well basically when i pull the head u'll know for sure if the surface is ok and straight then i wouldn't worry about it(odds are it's fine as long as you didn't overheat it too badly) i have done two without pressure testing or reserfaceing and have had no porblems...It is a 22re right?

22r is a super simple engine to work on. head gasket is like $20

Just check it with a straight edge to make sure its not warped. I did not over heat mine so it was not warped or cracked and it only had like 20k on it since a rebuild so I wasn't worried about the valves leaking. If your paranoid you can bring it in to a machine shop and get it decked and pressure tested.

if it blows white smoke it is the head gasket but if it ain't running at all just wheeling over it is the timing chain.... i found out the hard way with the timing belt

if it looks like baby poo dont run it
drain it out and flush it out
anti freeze is killer on bearings
ive used diesel just dont let it sit full o poo

start pulling spark plug leads off. if the engine rpm drops that cylinder is firing, if no rpm change that cylinder is not firing.

IF the guides are fine then your chain is okay.

HG time. Might aswell do the timing chain too. Engnbldr has cheap kits, his timing kit comes with a very nice metal drivers side guide..

or you can go on ebay and get metal guides for both sides for cheap

Its true, but most people would agree the drivers side is the most important guide to be metal backed.

The passenger side is usually fine when you tear it apart..
