well just got back from 4 days in ucuclet and tofino, this was the first time ive ever seen the ocean which is sad i know but what can ya do, we had a killer time had awsome weather and seen some awsome stuff, we surfed just about every day the waves were great but a little bunched in at times, went bungie jumping, hiked alot of amazing trails, met some cute girls ;) and hiked through a bog to find a crashed WWII bomber which was the highlight for me for those who have heard about it and never done it i recommend you do but make sure you bring rubber boots  , anywas does anyone know the story of this bomber or who it belonged to? ive never seen one like it before, enjoy

Wicked pics! Info on the bomber would be very cool, my brother is an aircraft historian so I'll contact him and see if he's got the scoop on it...

That's the wreck of a canso bomber. They had to drop their bombs before they crashed, those round ponds that you would have hiked passed on the way in were the craters left by the bombs. Everyone survived that crash. Very cool hike indeed. Those cabins at Uculet are pretty decent. Did you get one with a hot tub? Thanks for sharing your trip. We usually go there this time of year as it's decently priced and not over crowded with tourists.

hey thats a great link thanks alot, hard to believe all 12 survived, and its funny cause when we were hiking in and came across the water holes i told my buddy i wondered if they were loaded and had to drop bombs before they crashed cause the hole seemed kinda weird, thats awsome thanks again [cheers]

[stupid]

That wasn't there a couple years ago. There was also some laminated posters inside the plane detailing the crash and subsequent rescue, but I suspect that too is destroyed as Buck had no idea about the bombs. [16]

Definitely a Canso flying boat. Also knows as the PBY-5 Catalina. Many were built at Sea Island, now the location of YVR. They were mainly used as maritime patrol aircraft. Although they could carry bombs they weren't designed as a bomber. Some have been modified into firebombers but are no longer used for that. Still a few Canso's around. One has been sitting at the Nanaimo airport for many years.
