will a leaf sprung f250 i beam drop bracket work on a coil sprung f150?

anyone know the size of shock/travel needed for a fullsize ford with 4-5" lift?

anyone got or know where theres a pair of long arms for ttb?

where the hell is national? nick told me about them too but i cant find them. near dales alignment by any chance? thats the last place i havent looked.

im leaning towards cut&turn beams the more i look into things. anywhere in lower mainland do that stuff? i guess it equals out to a 4" lift maybe the guys at national will know what im talking about more than I do haha.

For longer radius arms....

http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/features/bronco/1001_4wd_1977_ford_bronco/photo_03.html

cage off road makes some really good ones.
Although I just went to their site as I was writing this.... they're out of business.
Skyjacker and superlift both make longer ones too I believe.

did some measuring the bracket moves the spring 9.5 inch
move front hanger down 2 " helps pinion angle
makes 6" lift

Hey fordfarm when I come by this weekend maybe ya can show me the rear bracket setup again i need to understand what we were talkin bout before.

how much lift do u get from shackle flip? i want to ditch the blocks in my truck

from what i've seen a ford shackleflip using stock pieces will get you 3-4" depending on spring condition. What we are talking about here is using a front hangar as a rear hangar, with it flipped

hodge
02-11-2010, 10:02 PM
i should do that, can i get rid of the factory block too then

thrillbilly
02-12-2010, 04:57 PM
depends how high your front is i guess? if you take out your factory 2" block (the wedge im assuming) then do a shackleflip you will be sitting at 2" higher than stock with the block.. ?

coils n f250 shock towers arrived.
Beams are to big to be kept inside, but heres the pile so far.. sans beams

thrillbilly

ok parts list updated
6" cut n turned beams
long arms
6" softride coils
left n right upper n lower balljoints
knuckles (see question below)
f250 shock towers

my ball joints r junk in all 4 corners, got new ones sittin here. need truck for work. thinking of pressing the bjs into the other knuckles i have then just swapping knuckles to minimize downtime of truck.

the knuckles are from an 80s f150 and mines a 92. any idea of the caliper size or design changed at all?

thx

thrillbilly
02-22-2010, 07:12 PM
ok no the knuckles are not the same.

heres a mock up of the arms, i dont think they look too long once they are in place. they will sit 3" further to the right then in this pic. and will line up with the transfer case skid plate.

RA mount rivets are out, bolts in.
workin the rear leaf hangar rivets now.

then it all begins anyone willin to give a hand here n there is more then welcome but i beleive the work will be done either in port kells or delta.

gonna go with a bilstein 5125 shock the larger version of 5100 anyone heard anything bad about them?

getting the shackle flip this weekend then once the rivets r out the rear will be done, and then the front will be torn apart.

will try to take pics as i go.

thrillbilly
04-05-2010, 12:37 AM
ok so heres first days progress. keep in mind im doing this solo, outdoors, not exactly every tool i need.
also i know ya guys know how to do this stuff, just from a green perspective its my advice and experience.

when you have no friends handy, build a friend! i used chain and 2 clips and clipped one end to a frame hole and the other to my crescent wrench to prevent it from rotating as i crank on the bolt :thumbup hey, it worked..
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs503.snc3/26437_10150158640230282_622240281_11813336_6780991 _n.jpg
my bushing and bolt were in very bad shape, a torch and some elbow grease would not get it completely out. i opted for the simplest route and cut the head off the bolt and cut the hangar itself :doh0715: i have a new Sky hangar and new shackle, so by any means necessary i removed the old.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs483.ash1/26437_10150158640925282_622240281_11813364_7229070 _n.jpg
pried at the hangar with a ball joint tool. VERY handy. for prying stubborn bolts and prying anything.. i recommend it.. after the hangar popped off i heated up and hammered the rivets out, all came out simple once heated.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs483.snc3/26437_10150158641060282_622240281_11813366_6628623 _n.jpg

got the shackle bolt off and removed the shackle. began drilling the holes out to 1/2"
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs483.ash1/26437_10150158641840282_622240281_11813376_2400934 _n.jpg

tomorow i drop the gas tank, bolt up hangar, and attach leaf to hangar.
my question is, do i just pull the leaf down and the shackle back till they meet and go with that? as long as the shackle angle is correct?

any advice or tips is appreciated.

fordfarm
04-05-2010, 03:28 PM
why drop the tank

thrillbilly
04-06-2010, 10:32 AM
to reach behind the frame to tighten up the nuts. i ended up taking off skid plate and propping up the tank, that gave me enough clearance.

now im having issues with shackle angle, pointing the wrong way. its still at full droop but its own weight wont put it back enough i think.

anyone had this issue with a sky flip? im told i need to move the front hangar back 1.5"

thrillbilly

not ashamed to post my failures cause there has to be a solution...

why is passenger shakle in backwards drivers side looks like it is good because the hanger stops the shakle from going forward

Troy
04-06-2010, 04:44 PM
shackle angle should be roughly perpendicular to the ground at ride height

only did drivers side when pics were taken. am now almost done the passenger side.

all bolted back up, angle was better now that its on its own weight. the angle could definitely be better but it'll be adressed when i attack the front in a carport with proper tools. started the passenger side as well, rivets are out, u bolts are off and overloads are removed, just didnt feel like using the Makita gear driven drill last night, so i will start again today.
