Well due to some bad luck on Boxing day I'm shopping for a new truck wanna go with a diesel this time probably a 2500 4x4.

So I'm curious is there anything I should be watching out for(engine, tranny, trans case,diffs......) I'm new to the diesel scene looking at 2004 and up.

Going from a ram 1500 hemi 4x4, don't really have anything to haul but after buying 1500 was sad about hauling capacity just wanna have it so can use it need be

Thanks [cheers]

I have an 05 3500 Dodge quad cab 5.9 (bought it new) auto with the manual trans with 100k on it the only problem I have had was front u-joints which were replaced under warranty. Try to find one that has not been chipped or messed around with that has had all its regular maintenance done on it and you won't be disapointed[cheers]

Yup, I have an '06 Cummins auto - only 46000km on it and no problems yet but expect to do ball joints/axle joints and wheel bearings in the next 20k or less. That's a lot of weight up front - should have left kingpins in these 1 tons. Do the regular maintenance on it and it should last a long time.

[stupid] and manual transfer case. Very rare/ hard to find but they do exist mostley in the US. If you wait a few more months the doller will probably be par and they are way cheaper in the US.

If you do get one out of the US don't you have to have it safety inspected

jjs grandpa did it,

jj, if you can get one thats completley stock, (i.e hasnt been fucked with, chip wise) you will be fine, as long as you dont add a bunch of power to them, (which is true for all diesels,) you wont have any tranny problems, basically it really just comes down to maintence on the vehicle itself.. buy a diesel mang, and ill buy a bigger trailer to fit both or trucks :D
