View Full Version : Burning brakes going up hill?

Here is the deal, effectively stock 91 tracker(mods to come), but went for a run yesterday out ice fishing, when going up hills(lafter about 1km I can smell them) my brakes start burning, then my brake pedal turns to mush, just like if my master cylinder went.
I haven't touched the brakes in 4 months, just started happening 3 days ago...
Any ideas is it my master cylinder? Or something different?

I had the same problem with my land cruiser. I bleed everything twice and it seemed to fix the problem. IT was only up hill tho and it only affected my front brakes.

could it be a seized piston in the caliper?

I'd figure out which brake was getting hot and stinky...
could be a sticky caliper... or a park brake cable that was stuck...
either way, brake fluid gets hot, boils and you get that spongy feeling on your brake pedal...
good idea to flush your brake fluid when you figure out the problem...
if sticky caliper would happen all the time not just up hill
prob is the air in the line, when going up hill, air travel to the top and it goes all the way to master and cuz the brake!!!!
bleed the brake DOT3 cost u $5
