View Full Version : First snow tracks on Eagle

We started the day late, so me and my friends (3 G wagens) decided to go up Eagle, play in the snow.
Took us a long time to get some quiznos, smokes, drinks, air down...
Finally we were off!
LOTS of mud...couldn't go up on any of the "mud steps"...half way down the power line :dontknow:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f160/Razon13/First%20snow%202009/DSC_0300800x600.jpg

So, we went up. At the first sights of snow I got really excited. ATV tracks went part way up. After that it was all virgin snow!
Actually I met this guy....I've seen him up there before in his buddies Samurai. He started hiking yesterday, and aparently he got to the "white rock" late last night. he camped there, and today he was hiking back down....all by himself. Not sure if I would have the guts....but anyway...his tracks were the only ones up there (at the lake).

The drive up:

The West Lookout was the first stop.

Before we left I decided to give the big rock a try. Those tires are just nuts, I'm really happy with them.

Here's the video:

Then we were off to Cypress lake.

Didn't spend much time there. It's nice, but not much to see.
So, we were off to the East Lookout. First over the bridge.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f160/Razon13/First%20snow%202009/P1050833800x600.jpg

One we hit the trail to the East Lookout, we find lots of trees down blocking the way. Didn't have a chainsaw, so I got quite the workout using an ax. We had to do this a few times...luckly no big trees. At this point it was allready dark outside.

Finally we reached the lookout. We only took my truck up. It's hard enough to get up there in dry, so again, I was very impressed how the tires performed. Just unbeliveble!

Video reaching the lookout (kinda pointless since it's dark. At least you can see it's snowing :) ):

Lol, that was me you met up there. I was on my way down from the Buntzen Lake side, where I started the day before. Was a good trip. There are a few great lookouts and things to do/see up there.

Anyways, I'm glad to see you still have that G-wagon going, that thing's amazing. And that samurai I was riding in before, it's mine now. Broken at the moment, but I should have it back together either tomorrow or the next day.

Hopefully that map was somewhat useful to you, if not in the best condition. Give me a PM if you want a better copy.

Oh, and btw, nice pics!!

Tyler, I didn't know if you're on the board. I figured you would be tired after the hike, not posting at 2 in the morning! You're crazy man :)
Let me know if you want to go wheeling when you get your Zuk on the road.

I like it when there is more people, we should do it again soon. Apardngly there is lots of snow comming on the mountains after Tuesday
I think I'll go check out the powerlines, maybe there is people there. If not, maybe just take the girls up on Cypress Mountain. Went there Friday night, and it was fukin nice!
The tires are 37" Iroks.

what engine is in your G and how well does it turn the tires on and off road?

It's a 3L turbo diesel out of a '81 Mercedes 300SD. It had 375K when I put it in so now it's close to 400000km. Doesn't burn oil yet so I think it'll go for a bit longer. I made some minor adjustments to the Injection Pump to get more power but still running 8psi...MAYBE 140hp.
These trucks are slow, regardless what engine they come with. ~19sec 0 to 100km/h ( the new G500 and G55AMG are oviously much quicker).
On the good side I guess they have really low gearing from factory. Mine has about 80:1 total reduction from engine to wheels in 1'st and 4LO. So it'll spin all 4 wheels fully locked no matter what surface it's on, but it only does 100km/h comfortably...maybe 120 if I rev the shit of of the engine ( the original gas engine would rev higher). Also you can't really get a run at things, you're mostly driving slow over stuff.

Yeah, snow!!! The local mountains are open. I was gonna go snowboarding today, but didn't make it :(

I only new about it from very few pictures I've seen before, so I asked a few people. They didn't know where it was...but they all said "it must be East". So, I went and looked for it East. Went there the first time maybe a month ago.
The last 100ft is a very steep, slippery rock face that has a little step, or ledge at the bottom that's really hard to get onto.
This is the video that made me start looking for it...starting at 2:22min, ending at 4:!5.
They don't have any shots from up there so I always wondered if it's doable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br4jSIvHlgs

I think longer wheel base vehicles do better....not sure if someone told me or if it was in a different video, but aparently a Land Cruiser made it up.

Muahaha. Never wheeled in the snow really.. I did go up sylvester on some trails the other day and there was snow on the ground. It got a bit tight on the trails so I didn't continue as I was by myself.. Can't wait for it to snow lots tho.
