My 87 toyota is running fine, but I have a problem. Have an automatic transmission. After it is warmed up, when I back-up it stalls or runs rough like not idling fast enough. Most times fine when going ahead and idles OK. Have set idle fairly high, but it still stalls when warm in reverse. Is there a setting other then idle on the 22RE? Works fine in reverse when cold. Starts again easy. No Problem.

It is furstrating when trying to turn around and back-up out in the bush. Have to keep starting it again or try to back up fast which is not good. Is there something about the computer setting or an adjustment.

What rpm does it idle at, and what rpm does it drop to when you drop it into reverse?

The air idle bypass in the throttle body can cause idle issues as it is very prone to gunk buildup.

Try pulling the intake off and cleaning out the throttle body, around the butterfly and make sure to spray TB cleaner (I use Deep creep and intake kleen) into the ports that feed the air idle bypass.
