I took a 10 bolt corporate front diff w\springs out of a 83 3/4 ton 4x4 pick-up. It has 12 teeth on the pinion and 41 teeth on the crown gear. I guess thats 3.42 gears? Thats like highway gears right?

THEN I'm taking a Dana 60 out of a 81 4x4 Pickup that has 4:10's and putting the 10 bolt corporate diff, 3.42 gears under the front of it. The guy buying the 81 Pickup is going to make it into a mud bogger since it has a high perf. 454 too[36] . I know the 10 bolt will not last long but I and the guy buying the 81 pick-up wonder how the front diff with 3.42 gears will work with the 4.10's in the rear diff for mud bogging??:p Any suggestions for sizingthe rear to front tires? The guy buying the 81 Pickup says he has a 1 ton dodge front diff he can put under once he gets it home too.

You are wondering what I'm doing with the Dana 60? Well its going under my 81 Jimmy frame for rock crawling:party0010:

So yer saying no worky? How about just locking in the front end in a really slimy pit? I hear faster gears in the front will keep front end up but maybe no with a wimpy 10 bolt? Whats a better match for the front diff gears with 4:10's in the back?

It will only last till something gets traction then its all over.
He should have the same gears front and back unless you can figure out the ratios between the gear sets and run different tires to compensate but you'd have a bigger tire on the front than on the back.[wako]

I guess he will just have to put that dodge front diff under. By the way the 3.42's are considered highway gears like faster than 3:73's?

a better match for the 4.10 gears in the rear would be 4.10s in the front...

Why don't you just leave the 60 in it and take the guy that's buy it Dodge 60 in trade and save your self the work. If you are building something custom it don't really mater if you use a Dodge or Chevy diff

Just found out I have 3:42's in the front of my 83 gmc 3/4 ton. It has 4:10's in the back. With the 285/75 tires it slips ok on the ice and mud but binds up on my gravel driveway. So my Jimmy dana 44 will go under the 83 gmc and the dana 60 under the jimmy. The guy buying my 454 offered $1000 so I said no. So the 454 still stands at 1500 obo and 1500 firm if someone wants the whole truck minus the dana 60. I'll put in the 3:42 diff so it can be rolled until I find another 4:10 front diff or buy some gears. How much for new crown\pinion 4:10's? Probably get a whole diff on craigs list for less eh?
