Just picked up a grand cherokee last weekend and Now somethings gone terribly wrong in the engine. Died on me coming off the highway so i figured it was the battery and just bought a new one, Fired up with the new battery and Theres a nice loud clanging noise coming from under the right side valve cover, and it just died out again when i tried to move it. Any Ideas? Checked the oil and it still clean, no metal or anything from what i can see.

Also if i just decide to swap engines will a 96+engine work in a 95?

Ill let you know, just gotta get the thing towed back from chilliwack, another huge dilema! Lol I'm hoping its something small, couple people I talked to said the engines probably fine if it still turned over for me and started again.

i thought it was too at first, until that horrible rattling noise from under the valvecover. Could be a combination though......

also also also it could just be your altenator, justa long shot but when i put a new battery in my xj somehow it fried my altenator and it made an ugly knocking sound, took me a while to figure out and odds are thats not what it is, but may as well be sure could save you a shitload of work!

Its getting towed back to my work tomarow. Shop foremans nice enough to let me bring it in and work on it in my spare time at work. And there's plenty of mechanics here to help me atleast. One thinks I spun a bearing.... I hope I didn't. Ill find out soon I guess (crossing fingers its an easy fix)
