Hey guys I got a 78 bronco with a pretty built 460, Well today was the first time I went for a drive and after 2 minutes I threw the driveshaft out from under the truck. I got the 1310 yoke and U-joint size, I could get new yokes and go with a 1350 but I my old U-joints were rough I think. So I just wanna get 1310 again, I hear lordco is not the best with U-joints, but can I get a spicer through them? Or where else can I go loacally? Or should I order them online?

Danco in portkells is an authorized spicer driveline place.
when I lived in the Wack I would travel to Danco for Ujoints

if you need a driveshaft it is hard to beat broncograveyard.com for a bolt in
on my 78 I upgraded to the 1330 stuff from a 1979 and it was around $400 for new shaft, both the new dif yoke and new transfer case yoke, and seals

if you break it again I would start looking at an antiwrap bar, axle wrap is usually what spits the driveshaft out

Is there much axel wrap with you're leaf springs?'
That will snap any ujuint if it binds.

Have you rotated you're axle so the yolk points at the transfer case more?

Ill have to google that, Im not sure where it is. I dont know if its worth 400 bucks to try something, So ill spend however much on the spicer stuff 1310's and depending on fast I blow them out will choose if I go 1330 or 1350.

By the looks of it, This time where the drive shaft dropped was at the front, So sounds more like torque from the engine then axle wrap. But if it comes down to it ill make some ladder bars for the rear.

The angle from the yoke on the diff to the yoke on the transfercase i'd have to say is perfect enough for me not to touch it. I got no idea how much wrap there is in my leafs but where the driveshaft dropped from at the front sounds more like torque issue.. Thanks for the link though ill check that out.

Thanks for the replies I wasn't thinking about axle wrap. Makes me wonder now, Like I said above ill go cheap once but with new ones and see how long it lasts. Then that will determine how big I go, I might just end up chuckin a 14 bolt FF or 10.25 back there and havin 8 lug out back and 5 up front.

1310 with a 460 u will break em again your wheel base is not helping with a lifted vehicle up grade and be done with it or carry lots o spares....I had 1350's on my BII front and back and 1410's on my Truck throwing a driveshaft can get real costly....

So im just going with some stronger then stock 1310's. then if those go out fairly soon, im going 1350 and might swap in a 1 ton rear end.

Hmm, How much do you want for the axle? 4.88 would be perfect for 40's with the power this 460 has. only crappy thing is im running 3.55 gears up front

napa sells spicer stuff too

Thanks, thats where ill go if lordco dont have them, Im going to pick some up at about 3 today.

Axle wrap wasn't the problem in breaking the last ones.

I got the new center yoke. H yoke, and 3 new spicers. Had the truck on the road 1 day and havent broken anything yet, It is very fast.

I broke 5 rear drive shafts and split to slip yokes with a cop car 460 in my 78 bronco that had 35's with a spool in the rear and and many sets of rear leafs got broken so I agree with mj on the antiwrap bar

But how come I am breaking them right at the transfer case. No locker either just open diff. Just alot of torque, no big deal. I fixed it once more, Seems to be good so far, If I break it again im going 1350 or 1410

the most fucked one broke, doesnt matter where it was, it was the weakest one of the bunch
I know you wont believe us, you dont have the power to snap ujoints, and then to add its an open dif...you dont have the traction to break a ujoint with power
if you break it again, or maybe so you wont break it again, get an antiwrap solution in place

and when you get to the point that you need a traction/ladder bar made, i can build it for you

duals or single bar

you are binding and breaking. Short wheelbase axle wrap ,improper angle etc are they snapping when you reverse?

figure out the geometry, sort out the axle wrap and i am sure you will have far less issues.
