when asking to build some thing, it is not the price of the material that regulates the price it is the persons skill and knowledge that you are paying for, if you want some thing "custom made to your spec or idea" the person building it is the one that has to make your brain fart a reality. any one can go and buy a piece off a shelf but if you want it original this is where the prices changes.

just some food for thought![cheers]

It really depends on what the item is.

some things are Time consuming ,high skill requirements, labour intensive and or high material cost.

it is the combination of these things which determine the price .

the price is dictated by what the customer is willing to pay, and how much bullshit they are willing to believe
$500 for a bumper that is barely attached to the frame seems steep to me but the tools and materials to make it are $$ these days

It is very time consuming building custom stuff. I have countless hours into my Blazer on bumpers, gas tanks, speaker boxes, and on and on. Since there is no plan to work from, the plan, build, fit modify way is very time consuming. If I had to pay for it, my front bumper alone would be around $2500 or more. Thats why I never reply to fabricators wanted posts, I just don't want to work, and use up my tools and equipment for someone else for $2.00 an hour.

well i think the biggest issue is that folks dont understand what is involved in one off stuff or repairs so they think that custom work will be the same or less then things made from jigs, production line assembly ect.

I dont believe that you get what you pay for as price paid (be it high or low)is not always an honest reflection of quality.

I decline on a number of things based on the PITA principle as well as the many other things that surrond it.
That being said, I do some things for some folks but i am picky.

now a hot Redhead or Blond Bombshell i would be willing to swap equal time working for equal time playing oh yeah
