yes - i desided i was going this weekend - be it alone if need be
but Laura stepped up

what a great day - you travel up an hours worth of gravel to get the the trail head - even the drive in was fun

I've been up there three times now, always an amazing view.

I'm not in good shape, it makes it a bear to get up there. Once there it's sure worth the hike.

Did you drive in through the Ryder lake area, or along Chilliwack Lake rd. That latter is far less gravel rd.

Mudgirl

Drove up chilliwack lake road
wouldn't wanna do that hike from the valley floor - we sure got alot of the elevation knocked off by how close we could drive to the top

When you drive back down from Cheam, you pass a gravel pit and turn left right afterwards to get back to Chwk lake rd.
You can also turn right there and follow that road into the Ryder Lake area and come down by Prest.
It's more gravel Rd, I was thinking maybe you went that way.

A friend of mine hiked up from bridal falls back in the day (late '80s) on a school trip. My first thought was 'good for him' ;) .

Yeah we went left after the gravel pit then right over a bridge - i was just following directions off a hiking book - even just driving the road was good views

that would be huge the top of that mountain is over 2000+m

we only did 700m

yes it was a bit of walking most of it up hill - but the scenery was worth it

the road in is blocked in two spots to keep sleds, bikes and quads out

you are brave my friend

those switchbacks at the top are not too wide
but mountain bikers are crazy so.......

A good portion of the trail is narrow switch backs. I don't think you'd be much appreciated if you take your bike up there.
It can be quite busy, especially on nice days.

Haven't seen any blockade that can keep a sled out when there's enough snow! Is Mt. Cheam in a park? I've seen rants (don't blame them) on some hiking forum about the bikes and atvs chewing up those meadows, then they blocked it.

I thought the whole point of going hiking was to get away from the crowds! :D

I'm not sure - it is alpine meadows so i imagine anything other than foot traffic up there would get a nasty response. I don't know much about sledding so you might be able to - but really people with motorized equipment could just go up Thurston instead.

i think that is the case for most people
but for me its to check out awesome views and to get outside (i don't mind the people)
