Why the old engine stopped running.

All this recently after I did this:

Which resulted in this:

Stuffed some goodies in there too. All new bearings, seals and brakes, rebuilt the Limited slip, stuffed it all back together with 4.10 gears.

Limited slip works realllllll good.

My current plans are stock 4.00" pistons (New), new cam, clean up the heads, polish the intake and exhaust ports, Headers, Intake, get some driveshafts built that won't self-destruct when I plant the gas, topped off with a 650cfm carb.

And go from there. I'm almost thinking about punching it out .030 over while its at the machine shop though.

I've got the same engine that I built up. I regret the hedders though, they leak and kind of suck ass. If you get hedders, you'll have to switch over to the nippondenso starter. There's another 300 bucks on top just for the starter.

have you put any $$ into that engine ? because i wonder how much it would cost to drop a cummins in there , I bought my parts truck for $2500

I went with a .020 overbore, Flat top pistons, RV-style cam, Stock heads Rebuilt (They were ok, but I got them cleaned up). got a Weiand Stealth intake for it and Flowtech Long tubes, I don't know if I'll use em yet though. Gotta phone the machine shop tomorrow for the specs on the cam, I wasn't very happy today to phone them.

Just got the bill, $3400 Plus another $500 for the intake, headers, fuel pump, etc. johny you're right, I could have put a cummins in for alot cheaper. 440 too. :ballsmack :ballsmack :ballsmack :ballsmack I thought this was going to be the cheaper way to go but apparently I was wrong. At least I will have a stout engine now I hope.

Fuckin Lordco Machine shop. I wanted a stock style rebuild with some stuff and ended up with a fully rebuild everything

New Valves, rocker arms, rocker guide, posi lock seals, seats, stiffer springs, valve guides, and pushrods. I wanted more like new stock seals, new stock springs, and a 3-angle grind on the valves with new seats.

New .020 flat top pistons

New bearings

New crank (I wanted mine turned, not replaced)

New rings

new oil pump, timing set, gasket set.

Fucking machining and labour costs alone were $1400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!?!?

All they did was assemble my shortblock, didn't put my heads together either.

I've been a lifelong Lordco customer, never had a problem with the hope store until now, and they won't do anything to make it right. go fuck yourself

I'd be choked too, if they were going to do a new crank, you might as well have gone with like you say, a big block, or even a big block stroker.

Because your mileage is going to be shitty anyways...

looks cheap to me.
only thing I have had lordco do was fuck me over on a set of SBC heads.
provided them with all comp cams valvetrain parts and new stainless manley valves and the asshats knurled the guides rather then replace them. drank oil like a mofo

what does "new crank" mean? they found a core that wasnt as fuked as yours?

I dont see anything 'extra' on that list.
if the heads needed rebuilt they needed new guides. if the guides are pooched so are the seats and valves so also required items.
chances are the seals and aftermarket springs are cheap and better then stock stuff.

Last time I priced out a jobber stock spec long block, it was alot cheaper than 3400.

IF I had been told that the heads were fucked, I would have said "screw it" and bought a 440.

And before any, ANY work was done I asked him the condition of the heads, Block, Crank, and Connecting rods. This is why I was not prepared for a $3400 bill.

All the block stuff I was prepared for, and I have no problem with that. I'm just trying to find out where $1700 of head work came from.

I'm never going to see my fucking engine again. :mad0217: they won't budge on the price and they already GARBAGED my old parts.

so have you payed them any money?

cummins time?

Maelthra
09-30-2009, 08:36 PM
I gave them some but I'm reasonable sure I can get it back.

I'm thinking cummins if I can find a complete truck, otherwise I know of a couple 440s.
