SKOOKUMCHUCK HOT SPRINGS FEB 2001

This was a weekend run. We left Friday night around 7:00pm; can anyone say night run!!? If you have never done a 4x4 night run then you don't know what you are missing. Picture this- big lights, open road, great stereo and good friends. We weren't sure if we were going to make it as last year same time we were stopped by the snow. This time the snow was light, the road was plowed and the drive was incredible.

The destination was the Skookumchuck Hot Springs and we arrived around 1:00am. We couldn't believe how many people were camping there for this time of year. I would say there were 8-10 camps set up at the site.

Now when I tell people that we go camping in February they say we are nuts! What they don't know is we have along Bruce's cabin-wall tent with a wood stove and as you can see in the pictures we are really roughing it, yeah right! For example, one of my favourite ways to pass the time in the tent is to cook up some appies. Here are just a few that we had: Garlic tickled ribs. Bacon wrapped steak, Bacon wrapped scallops, and turkey legs. We said that next time we would just take appies and forget about main meals. This was a big contrast to the guys that pulled up in the pickup behind us. They had a fire going and when I went over to say hi they said they were going to stay up all night, no need for a tent or sleeping bag. Well it snowed over night and I think I would rather be in the tent rather then slumped under a tree.

The tubs were clean and well maintained and as you can see they look more commercial than free. Rumour has it that I had a few and late at night I was singing "Roxanne" although not too well in the tubs but that is only a vicious rumour.

A freaky thing happened in the morning as we were packing up and getting ready to leave. This guy, drunk as a skunk walks into the tent stark naked. Bruce was making breakfast on the cast iron pan and this guy says "Wow, you rock man you got a big skillet. Hey this guy rocks man'" and stumbles out. It was worth the mention as I bugged Bruce on the way home about his "big skillet".

We were packed and on the road by 12:00pm and had a slow drive back with lots of stops to shoot the .22 and to check out some future camping spots.

A great trip had by all and look forward until the 3rd annual Skookumchuck hot springs 2002 guy trip!

Hey there, I was up at the hot tubs on the same weekend you guys were (burgundy toy and chevy, red cherokee). I just read you trip report on your trip.

Just a couple things to add:

- The Roxanne singing - its not a rumour!!!! -

That drunk naked guy in the morning was pretty funny. He wandered into the camp where two guys and two girls were camping. They asked him to leave a couple times but he wouldn't, so one of of the guys grabbed him, got his arms around behind hi back and ran him out of the sight, and then threw him to the ground hard - ouch. That calmed him down in a hurry - road rash on his face and well, you know. At the time he was wearing boots and a jacket - looked hilarious.

Anyway, I recognized your truck when you guys were leaving so I thought I'd check your site out again - I hadn't come by for some time.

Take it easy and good site!

Dave.
