One of the
more interesting places to go wheeling is the infamous Redneck
flats better known as Stave lake mud flats. Here you can
often hear the words "bet you can't" followed by something that
would rival any monster truck shows.
Jason and
his newly purchased Jeep YJ was itching to play in the mud all
day. His first choice just happened to be one of the deepest,
muddiest, water-filled holes dug out by numerous rednecks before
him. Warning bells should have gone off when the mud pit was right
in front of a line of parked trucks with 44's and not one of them
made a attempt.
With
adrenaline pumping and a few beers in his belly, Jason lined up
to attempt the pit. Of course as soon as he lined up for his run
hoards
of
rednecks - a few with camera's - lined the pit to watch the show.
No turning back now, Jason laid the peddle down and made his best
attempt but came up short as water entered and choked his engine.
Jason, taking inventory saying his amp and speakers would be toast
as water was still filling up the interior and his jeep was sinking!
Jason, understandably
in a bit of a panic to get his truck out of the
hole,
remembered his tug 'em strap was rapped around his rear tire carrier
and climbed out of the jeep. Mike, no stranger to getting down
and muddy when wheeling climbed, into the frigid muddy water to
grab the strap. Maybe it was because Mike felt guilty that he
suggested Jason try the swampy pit!
The
fun was over for Jason. After the jeep was extracted he spent
the rest of the night pulling his spark plugs and replacing the
oil.
This opened
up the flood gate of rednecking as "bet you can't" was heard a
few times more that night. Five more trucks attempted the
same
hole and all got stuck except the biggest redneck of them all,
a monster Ford with 44" Super Swampers and of all things, a Keg
of beer in the back!!!!
